Seeking Permanent Home For Thread Project Tapestries

Applications now being accepted.

For ten years, The Thread Project has encouraged tolerance, celebrated diversity and promoted compassionate community. Going forward, founder Terry Helwig plans to gift all seven (14' x 7') World Cloths to an interested organization whose mission supports tolerance and compassionate community.

If the "fabric of society" were an actual textile, it might well resemble these amazing cloths woven from threads gathered from people of all faiths and ideologies around the world. Tens of thousands of threads were pulled from clothing, blankets, fishing rods, guitars, and more. Some threads reflect tragic events such as those gathered on the Killing Fields of Cambodia and from 9/11 families; other threads celebrate milestones like birth and marriage. Woven on forty-nine looms set up world-wide, the resulting textiles comprise some of the most diverse cloth ever woven.

Just as the seven continents create one world, and the seven colors of the color spectrum create one light, these seven cloths create one World Cloth. The cloths, which took nearly five years to complete, are now being exhibited to remind people that we are ultimately a global family of one, united by a common thread!
