Weaving Reconciliation Green Cloth
| ~~Carla Tilgham - |
I never really thought that turning 40 would be anything other than depressing. Instead, it has turned out to be a rather freeing experience. I finally feel old enough to pursue dreams, express political opinions, and join causes. I recently completed a MFA in Textiles from Kent State University. In the latest round of elections, I have actively worked for the candidates of my choice. I’m participating in more community volunteer work. I guess you could say that I’ve finally grown up, in a good way.
The Thread Project drew me because of its scope; I liked the idea of joining many threads and thoughts in one weaving. Graduate school encourages you to be a selfish artist, focusing on the idiosyncrasies of your own work and the esoteric nature of your medium. I loved the experience and all the ways in which it made me a better artist. However, The Thread Project encouraged me to shift focus away from my own work for a while and allowed me to join with many other people in expressing our dreams of the future. Thanks to Terry for her idea and her willingness to see it through.
Other weavers who helped Carla Tilghman weave her panel are: Gena Simons, Cloe Marchand, Susan Bond, Terri Thayer and Tammy Smithson. |
