Weaving Reconciliation Green Cloth
| ~~Suri Provisor - |
I’m an Israeli weaver. I first heard of The Thread Project when a friend, randomly browsing the internet, found a photo of an Indian weaver by the name of Sarita, who had woven a panel for the Thread Project. My friend forwarded the photo to me since my name is also Sarita. I’ve always loved the idea that I share a craft that has been in existence since the dawn of humanity. The Thread Project appealed to me because it involved people from so many different cultures around the world; it is amazing for all of us to come together for a common project! I also find it incredible that the threads have been collected from thousands of people and thousands of hands have worked on this Project.
If only it were possible for the world to be fixed with a tapestry, for everyone to understand that we are all part of a great big puzzle with everyone doing their part, in the best way they can, for the common good of humankind.
The first thread woven into my panel is a thread of blue, dyed with murex; it is an ancient Jewish tradition and commandment to tie a blue thread on the corner of a prayer shawl as a reminder to always look to the heavens. Many hands have helped to weave my panel, including children from kindergarten. |
