Lienzo Luminoso (Cloth of Light) Yellow Cloth
| ~~Ilona Kemenes - |
The Hungarian panel of Lienzo Luminoso (Cloth of Light) was woven under the direction of weaver Ilona Kemenes who enlisted the help of eighteen other weavers from Hungary; all have signed their names.

We have been honored to take part in this project. February 12, 2006 Budapest, Hungary
My name is Ilona Kemenes. I’ve been weaving for almost twenty years. Formerly, I led tapestry weaving workshops in Budapest. In the late nineties, I moved to the USA with my family and lived in Atlanta, Georgia until 2003. I was lucky to meet a talented master weaver, Judith P. Krone at Callanwolde Art Center who changed my weaving life. Under her instruction I began to weave on multi-harness looms and I fell in love with garment weaving and surface design. Joining Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild, I had a chance to immerse in a very exciting creative life.
Two years ago I moved back to Hungary with my family and my looms, and founded the KILT Studio. Last year an offer came to weave a panel for The Thread Project: One World, One Cloth in Hungary. I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet and work with other Hungarian weavers. I warped my loom and took the weft from The Thread Project and traveled to a weaving conference in Heves, Hungary in August 2005. There, I gave a lecture about mission of The Thread Project.
The weavers agreed with the goal of the project and were very anxious to be involved. Each of us added picks in the panel; it was very important to us to weave something together. Weavers working together symbolize the way colorful individuals can live in a peaceful, unified world. Taking the threads sent by people from around the world was really touching and made the feeling stronger that people are able to join and do something together for a better world. |
