Lienzo Luminoso (Cloth of Light) Yellow Cloth

~~Christiana Okai Mensah  -
When I took delivery of the threads here in Ghana for The Thread Project, I was baffled and marveled as to whether I could weave them. My friends and acquaintances, both young and old, doubted that the knotted threads could be woven into any form of cloth and were worried that my loom couldn’t handle it. I, too, doubted that I could weave the uneven weft into cloth. However, when I proceeded with the weaving and started achieving results, the feeling of unity dawned on me. Life is full of uncertainties, ups and downs, yet, like the various knots, life comes together to weave a single piece of cloth.

Seeing the threads turned into cloth confirmed and portrayed the concept of unity in diversity; humans of all race, tribe, status and of all backgrounds can live together in peace and unity. I really enjoyed being part of the Project. My students loved it, too. The cloth is beautiful and yes, indeed, we are one world and one cloth.

I’ve included comments from two of my acquaintances here in Ghana.

I call the fabric a complete city, since it has a blend of colours, geometric shapes and a feel you have when walking through the city. Yaw

A look at the woven fabric puts my mind far. I can see a whole lot of weft with various colours which suggests to me that this planet earth is full of people of various colours and ethnic groups. But a blend of all colours and races of people can co-exist for a good living in this world. This will bring peace. Dorothy
